europe.
just got back from europe and this dude...
came up to us on the street in paris wasted out of his mind. i asked him if he was wasted and he said, "i do as i like." i wish i could have gotten more footage, and this lady...
was at a german rest stop playing an instrument (?). i gave her a euro. in a pub in a small town called cholet the owner and some patrons started to have an extremely violent ass slapping contest to the point where blood was drawn. the locals said it happened every weekend.
this is a video of me drunk shaving with toothpaste in a bathroom in strausbourg.
and this is a video of my friend jay pellicci walking through a pretty amazing art installation.
and this is a neon sign that makes sense only if you don't think about it.
and these kids apparently have a 4-on-the-floor techno "rondezvous" where literally hundreds of teenagers set up a dj booth in a public space, stand around awkwardly, pump out some "jams" while a couple of them actually get the balls to dance. it was pretty amazing.

brasil in the 70s.
i'm leaving for two weeks, but in the mean time, here's more brazillian culture circa the 70s.
Casa das Máquinas. it's a shame the camera man didn't spend more time on the front man. charisma galore.
Secos e Molhados. it's a good thing the camera man spent time on the front man. charisma galore.
Tião Macalé, the brazillian ODB?
i'm not sure what the deal w/ this guy is, but he seems to be the whacky half-gone lunatic scooped up and shoved into bad sitcoms and stupid commercials...

music videos.
dancing butterflies. this my personal favorite outsider music hero who's dancing completely inspires. this guy seems to be only referencing himself. amazing.
klaus nomi. if you haven't seen this, you should, incredible performance. icy weridness.
Delfin Quishpe. this song takes a while to kick in. it's the equadorian superstar's 9-11 lament. i love the awkward close ups of his face against the burning buildings.
carl lewis. olympian trying to bust into the synth pop scene.

commercials part 2
this commercial is completely out of control, down to the perfectly odd language, the costumes, the voice over work and the owl-like sound effect when the egg-man blinks his eyes... also, someone did a translation on youtube. seems pretty acurate to me..."Ibble Tricky Me unscrubbly Choca DOOBY! Doubly chocadooby Obbss Swoobbl Tooooy! Yodal yum and chocal scrum with multipopswethel toyyyy! ooooh, crubbleeee me scrouble now Nogo Weeeeeee!"
i actually grew up seeing this commercial on the air in the chicago-land area where it had cult-like following. it is difficult to ignore.
i don't know how i feel about this commercial, execpt that is it completely deranged. did it get it's point across? i suppose so.
this is an example of confused non-sense. i like it.

neo-psychedelic madness
pipilotti rist
takeshi murata
onkers ompersj:lhjl:l:hjl:hjkl (as shown under "name" on thejonkers youtube account)
e*rock
skye thorstenson (i think)
bec stupak
hong kong superstar of the 70's sam hui.
i stumbled across this first video trying to find chinese pop that i actually like, and this totally hits the mark. perfectly campy video, rippin 70s production and "goofy" band mates.
this one i'm not so into. it's perfectly fine breezy americana light rock, but not much else. you do have to be impressed by his english delivery though.

commercials.
terror-filled psychedelic tinged advertisment for german herbal product underberg. w/ violin playing skeletons, rats, skulls and ghosts...
i remember mr. yuck, but not this commercial. i like the moog jingle, but the singer needs to work on his vincent price laugh.
this has to be the most over-stimulating commercial i've seen. in less than 15 seconds, a kid descends on some hover craft thing into a flaming arena, battles an advesary surrounded by lightening & smoke, wins by pumping his fist and saying "yea!", spins around on the hover craft about 10 times, disappears in a bolt of lightening, while the product appears in space with flames- all to a soundtrack apeing king diamond, survivor and a goblin-like intro. holy shit.

shadows of our ancestors.
this is a clip from the ukrainian movie Tini Zabutykh Predkiv (shadows of our ancestors) that blows my mind. the music is like an eastern european sacred harp hymn... incredible.

weird public art.
i found all of these from anvari.org from a wfmu.org link a while back and all of these statues are amazing, the first one being the weirdest to me because what the fuck is going on here?? are the babies attacking him????
adult like bratty infant on some kind of rampage...
suspended rhinoceros who doesn't necesarily seem to mind.
cackling harpy peasant woman with goat in tow.
horrory stuff.
popular scene from lucio fulci's "zombie" featuring a zombie attacking a shark underwater. epic stuff. and great music.
giant rabbit attack w/ again, great music...
prosthetic blob monster clip from 80's movie terrorvision.
